Manual UpdatesThis sheet contains manual updates that apply to the following versions of the 34970A User’s 43734970-90438(User’s Guide – English: Edition 3 only)(User’s Guide – German)(User’s Guide – French)(User’s Guide – Japanese)(User’s Guide – Spanish)(User’s Guide – Italian)(User’s Guide – Korean)(User’s Guide – Chinese: Traditional)(User’s Guide – Chinese: Simplified)The page numbers shown correspond to the English version user’s guide (Edition 3). The updates have beenincorporated into Edition 4 of the English version user’s guide (p/n 34970-90003). This sheet also containsupdates to the 34970A Service Guide (p/n 34970-90012).Updates – 34970A User’s GuideAgilent BenchLink Data Logger 3 SoftwareAgilent BenchLink Data Logger 3 is included with each 34970A shipment. The BenchLink Data Logger 3software is contained on the 34825A Product CD-ROM (p/n 34970-13610). BenchLink Data Logger 3 iscompatible with Microsoft Windows 98, SE, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP. Refer to the Software menu on theProduct CD-ROM for installation instructions and additional information.Product WarrantyThe standard warranty period for the 34970A Data Acquisition/Switch Unit is one-year. All references to athree-year warranty within the product manuals must be changed to one year.Page 10Change: If your 34970A fails within three years of original purchase, Agilent will either repair of replace itfree of charge. Call 1-877-447-7278 and ask for “Express Exchange” or contact your local Agilent Office. To: If your 34970A fails within one year of original purchase, Agilent will replace it free of charge.Call 1-800-829-4444 and select "Option 3" followed by "Option 1".Chapter 1: Page 19Remove: “Creating Installation Floppy Disks” and the information under the heading. Agilent BenchLinkData Logger 3 does not support this feature.

Chapter 4: Page 99Change: * For frequency and period measurements, the instrument uses one “range” for all inputs between3 Hz and 300 kHz. The range parameter is required only to specify the resolution. Therefore, it is notnecessary to send a new command for each new frequency to be measured. To: * For frequency and period measurements, the "range" parameter is used to compute a specificmeasurement resolution (see the table on page 203). When specifying a (non-default) resolution, both the rangeand resolution parameters must be specified within the MEASure? and CONFigure commands. Refer to pages209 and 213 for examples.Chapter 4: Page 103Remove: * For temperature measurements, the integration time is fixed at 1 PLC.Chapter 4: Page 109Add: For verification tests 4-43, add a jumper on the 34908A terminal block between channels 36 and 16.Chapter 4: Page 119Change: Scaled Reading (Gain x Measurement) – OffsetTo: Scaled Reading (Gain x Measurement) OffsetChapter 4: Page 121Change: MEAS OFFSETTo: SET OFFSETChapter 4: Page 164Change: Shunt Switches 21, 22To: Shunt Switches 93, 94Chapter 4: Page 172Change: The 34905A is used for 50ȍ applications. Chapter 5: Page 209Add under MEASure:FREQuency? and MEASure:PERiod? To measure frequency or period at a specific resolution (i.e. over a specific integration time), both the rangeand resolution must be specified. For example, to measure a 10 kHz signal using an integration time of 2 PLC(see table on page 203), the MEASure? command could be executed as:MEAS:FREQ? 10E3, 0.022, (@101)Chapter 5: Page 213Add under CONFigure:FREQuency and CONFigure:PeriodTo configure a frequency or period measurement at a specific resolution (i.e. over a specific integration time),both the range and resolution must be specified. For example, to configure the 34970A to measure a 10 kHzsignal using an integration time of 2 PLC (see table on page 203), the CONFigure command could be executedas:CONF:FREQ 10E3, 0.022, (@101)Chapter 5: Pages 215-218Change: :DC (parameter in the command syntax on the pages listed)To: [:DC] (the brackets [] indicate :DC parameter is optional)Chapter 5: Page 219Under: [SENSe:]TEMPerature:NPLC {0.02 0.2 1 2 10 20 100 200 MIN MAX}[,(@ ch list )]Add: :NPLC?
