Students who do not transfer in core complete will have tomeet TWU's remaining core requirements as nursing program prerequisites. Language, Philosophy& Culture, Creative Arts, and the Additional Math or Wellness need to be completed prior tobeginning nursing, but Multicultural Women's Studies can be taken after starting the nursingprogram, if necessary.BOLD indicates the prerequisites that absolutely must be completed, have a posted grade, and be transferred to TWU prior to application to the Nursing program. Additionally, before students canapply, they must have a minimum of 46 credit hours completed (1st degree only) and have the remainder of the prerequisite coursework in progress or set to be completed before beginning the nursingprogram.1. Austin Community College uses the same numbers, but prior to Fall 2016, they offered Human Anatomy in one course and Human Physiology in another. It is fine if you took these courses, as longas you took both courses prior to Fall 2016. We will not accept just one of their separated courses matched with A&P I or II.2. Psychology statistics or other non-MATH statistics may be substituted for Math 1703, if student has a completed TX state core curriculum from another institution or meets the requirements for corecompletion at TWU.3. Prior to 2013, many community colleges offered GOVT 2301 & 2302. instead of 2305 & 2306 GOVT 2301 & 2302 are acceptable, if brought in as a set. Alternately, GOVT 2301 alone can becombined with either 2305 or 2306. Those who are only transferring in GOVT 2302, however, will need to take both governments at TWU in order to fulfill state requirements.

TO:RE:All Nursing MajorsRequirements for Clinical Placement and Subsequent Registered Nursing LicensureClinical PlacementAll potential students seeking entrance to the TWU College of Nursing Upper Division program shouldbe aware of requirements necessary for clinical placement during the nursing curriculum andsubsequent requirements for licensure. Nursing students gain expertise in nursing care by attendingrequired clinical experiences at hospitals and other clinical agencies in community. By providing directpatient care throughout the nursing curriculum, the student develops necessary knowledge, skills, andcritical thinking abilities in order to competently perform as a registered nurse applicant upongraduation. When students are placed in clinical agencies to complete necessary course work eachsemester, the students must comply with strict entrance criteria, to include, but not limited to,criminal background screening and drug testing, imposed by that particular clinical agency. TWUCollege of Nursing must ensure and verify that each student placed in a clinical facility meets thoserequirements. Currently, students MUST meet very specific identification requirements (valid ID) inorder to have drug testing and criminal background screening to attend clinical experiences andsuccessfully pass clinical courses in the curriculum. The following list contains the only acceptableidentification necessary for the drug testing and criminal background screening. One of the followingwill be required of all students who have been admitted to upper division nursing before a clinicalplacement can be offered. You must present one of these forms of identification on the daydesignated as nursing orientation. Unexpired US/Texas Driver’s License with photoUnexpired United States passport with photoUnexpired Foreign passport with Student Visa and photoUnited States State ID [Texas ID] issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles with photoUnited States Citizenship Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization with identifiable photoUnexpired United States military ID card for active duty, reserve, or retired personnel with photoBackground Checks for Texas Board of NursingPer Senate Bill (SB) 1058, criminal background checks are mandatory for all students accepted forenrollment in a nursing education program. These checks, initiated by the Texas Board of Nursing, are1 of 2
intended to identify individuals who, due to criminal convictions, would be ineligible to sit for theNCLEX exam upon completion of an approved nursing education program. Those who believe theymight have eligibility issues to be found through a criminal background check that could preventthem from taking the licensure examination upon completion of a nursing program are required tocomplete a Declaratory Order application. The Declaratory Order process permits the Board ofNursing to make decisions regarding an applicant's eligibility for licensure prior to entering orcompleting a nursing program. This process must be fulfilled before a clinical placement can begranted in any clinical nursing course. The Declaratory Order application can be found on the Texas Board of Nursing website (below):http://www.bon.state.tx.us/forms declaratory order.aspTesting Center Requirements for Licensure Testing (for graduates seeking RN licensure)Future nursing graduates should also know that PSI (the testing company assigned to provide NCLEXRN examinations required for licensure) requires a valid ID containing an identifiable photo andsignature.
