TO:RE:All Nursing MajorsRequirements for Clinical Placement and Subsequent Registered Nursing LicensureClinical PlacementAll potential students seeking entrance to the TWU College of Nursing Upper Division program shouldbe aware of requirements necessary for clinical placement during the nursing curriculum andsubsequent requirements for licensure. Nursing students gain expertise in nursing care by attendingrequired clinical experiences at hospitals and other clinical agencies in community. By providing directpatient care throughout the nursing curriculum, the student develops necessary knowledge, skills, andcritical thinking abilities in order to competently perform as a registered nurse applicant upongraduation. When students are placed in clinical agencies to complete necessary course work eachsemester, the students must comply with strict entrance criteria, to include, but not limited to,criminal background screening and drug testing, imposed by that particular clinical agency. TWUCollege of Nursing must ensure and verify that each student placed in a clinical facility meets thoserequirements. Currently, students MUST meet very specific identification requirements (valid ID) inorder to have drug testing and criminal background screening to attend clinical experiences andsuccessfully pass clinical courses in the curriculum. The following list contains the only acceptableidentification necessary for the drug testing and criminal background screening. One of the followingwill be required of all students who have been admitted to upper division nursing before a clinicalplacement can be offered. You must present one of these forms of identification on the daydesignated as nursing orientation. Those who believe theymight have eligibility issues to be found through a criminal background check that could preventthem from taking the licensure examination upon completion of a nursing program are required tocomplete a Declaratory Order application. The Declaratory Order process permits the Board ofNursing to make decisions regarding an applicant's eligibility for licensure prior to entering orcompleting a nursing program.
