Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router – Web Application User Guide3.1 SIM PINIn this view you can manage the Personal Identity Code, or ‘PIN’, for your Subscriber IdentityModule (‘SIM’), the small chip that you will have placed in your Router when you set it up.Figure 5 SIM PINSome mobile network operators require your PIN to be entered to access their mobilenetwork. In this view, you can store your PIN so that it is automatically entered whenrequested by your mobile network, instead of your Router prompting you for it each time. After you have successfully entered your PIN, you can also use this view to change your PINto suit yourself. Please note that if you enter your PIN incorrectly three times your SIM will be blocked. Whenyour SIM is blocked, you will need to enter your Personal Unblocking Key (‘PUK’) to unblockit again. If you cannot remember your PIN or PUK codes, you can get them from your mobilenetwork operator’s Customer Care team.Page 9 of 30Version 03, June 2016
Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router – Web Application User Guide3.2 Connection SettingsFigure 6 Connection SettingsThis view allows you to adjust the settings used by your Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router toconnect to the mobile network run by your mobile network operator.3.2.1 Account typeThis should automatically be set from your SIM, and must reflect the type of account thatyou have with your mobile network operator. The settings shown in the drop-down menuwill depend on the types of account offered by your network operator. You won’t normallyneed to change any settings here, but you can – for example if you change the type ofaccount that you have with your operator.See below for details of the fields that become available when you select ‘Custom’ in theAccount type drop-down menu.3.2.2 Connection modeThis allows you to set how your Router should react when a mobile connection is available:Automatic – Your Router will automatically open a mobile connection as soon as one isavailable, rather than waiting for you to open one yourselfPrompt – Your Router will prompt you to open a mobile connection using the Web app, rather than automatically opening itOn Demand – Your Router will only open a mobile connection when data needs to betransferred, at which point it will automatically connect, disconnecting again afterwards.Page 10 of 30Version 03, June 2016

This is known as ‘roaming’.3.2.3 Custom mobile network connection settingsIf you select ‘Custom’ in the Account type drop-down menu, you can enter your ownsettings for the fields listed below. Please note that because these are the settings that yourRouter requires to make a mobile connection to your mobile network operator’s network, you shouldn’t normally need to change them.APN – Short for ‘Access Point Name’. The APN is the computer in the internet via which youconnect to your mobile operator's mobile network. The address to enter here will have aformat such as ‘internet.vodafone.com’.DNS – Normally your Router will be given DNS Settings automatically when it connects. However, if you wish to enter manual addresses, you need at least one Primary DNS address. The secondary DNS address is optional and may be left blank.DNS2 – If you are using manual DNS Settings, you can enter a secondary DNS address here.Security – Select the type of security you wish to use from this menu. Supported securitytypes will depend on your mobile network operator and your Mobile Wi-Fi Router, but willnormally include protocols such as PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP(Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol).Username – Name required to authenticate with your chosen security protocol.Password – The password matching the username you entered above.Confirm password – Confirm the password entered in the ‘Password’ field. Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router – Web Application User Guide3.3 Network SettingsFigure 7 Network Settings3.3.1 Current network typeThese settings affect the ‘bearer’ used by your Router when connecting to your mobilenetwork operator’s mobile network. The bearer is the protocol used to transfer data across amobile phone network. Bearers include 4G, 3G , 3G, GPRS and EDGE.Newer mobile devices generally support several bearers, and will switch between them asnecessary, but older devices may only support certain bearers. Newer bearers are generallyfaster than older bearers, but may also consume more energy, depleting batteries fasterthan older, slower bearers.Selecting an exclusive option like ‘3G Only’ will limit your Router to using only that bearer, soit will not find a network when that bearer is not available. In contrast, setting a preference, such as ‘3G Preferred’, will set your device to use your preferred bearer when it is available, but drop down to another bearer when it is not. When you make any changes to any of the settings here, click ‘Save’ to save them. If youdon’t click the Save button, any settings changes you have made will be discarded.3.3.2 Current networkManage how your Router selects the best mobile network to use for a mobile connection.Automatic – Your Router will search for and select the best mobile network automatically, according to preferences shared between your Router, your SIM and the mobile networksthat are available.Page 12 of 30Version 03, June 2016

Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Router – Web Application User GuideChannel – Automatic means that your Router will attempt to reduce interference from otherWi-Fi networks in the vicinity by selecting a transmission channel that is not already in use. This is normally the best channel setting to use, but if you think your Wi-Fi network is beingdisrupted anyway, you can manually select a specific channel instead.7.2 MAC SettingsA Media Access Control (‘MAC’) address is a unique number identifying a specific hardwaredevice.
