SAP ME How-To-Guide for Production Tracking1 Introduction1.1 PurposeThis SAP ME How-To-Guide for Production Tracking is intended to provide sufficientinformation to enable the user to easily configure and readily utilize Production Tracking, makinguse of available best practices.1.2 ScopeThis How-To-Guide covers all aspects of Production Tracking, including SAP ME reporting andSAP ME Business Objects (BObj) reporting. It does not cover Work in Process (WIP) Trackingor Business Objects itself.1.3 GlossaryBObjBusiness Objects – The SAP product line for business intelligence andreportingCycle TimeThe amount of time it takes, from when a material is available forprocessing until the material has completed the processing, for a singleoperation or for all operations for a shop orderDoneStatus indicating that all operations have been completed for the SFCElapsed TimeSee Processing TimeFirst Pass YieldThe ratio of the number of pieces completed on the initial time through aprocess to the number of pieces completed, nonconformed or scrappedon the initial time through the process, typically expressed as a percentLead TimeQueue time plus processing timeODSOperational Data Store – The SAP ME database that contains historicaldetail and summary data for reporting purposesProcessing TimeThe amount of time from when a material is started at an operation untilthe material is completed at the operationProductionOutput of a manufacturing process that is ready to be moved toinventory, shipped to a customer or used in a higher level assemblyQueue TimeThe amount of time from when a material is available to be processed atan operation until the material is actually started at the operationThroughputThe number of acceptable pieces produced over a given period of timeThruputSee Throughput1

Production tracking is applicable to any customer doingdiscrete manufacturing.2.2 Business Purposes / FunctionsProduction Tracking provides visibility of the performance and output of the manufacturingprocesses, as seen through measures such as: Cycle Time Resource Utilization Schedule Compliance Thruput YieldSome of these measures can be applied at the operation level and at the shop order level, as wellas, to the material and work center / resource.SAP ME provides performance tracking primarily through sets of internal reports and throughsets of pre-defined Business Objects reports. The internal reports for production tracking areorganized into the following categories: Production Reportso Material Yieldo Operation Yield by Materialo Operation Yieldo Productiono SFC Average Cycle Time by Operationo SFC Average Cycle Time by Shop Ordero SFC Cycle Timeo Shop Order Cycle Timeo Work Center Yield2
SAP ME How-To-Guide for Production Tracking Resource Utilization Reportso Resource Daily Utilizationo Resource Utilization Charto Resource Utilization SummaryManufacturing Integration and Intelligence (MII) Reportso OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)The pre-defined SAP ME BObj reports for production tracking are organized into the followingcategories: Productiono Operation Process Timeo Operation Queue Timeo Production by Materialo Production Detailo Yield by Materialo Yield by Operation Resourceo Resource Usageo Resource Utilization Shop Ordero Order Completion Distributiono Order Exceptiono Order Lead Time by OperationThe SAP ME internal reports utilize data in the WIP database to provide up-to-the-minuteinformation on what has happened and what has been produced in manufacturing during therecent past. The SAP ME BObj reports use historical detail data and summary data from ODS toprovide longer term information on production tracking. For more information on the BObjreports, see the SAP Business Objects Reporting Guide available in Service Marketplace in theInstallation and Upgrade Guides area for SAP Manufacturing Execution 6.0.2.3 Best Practices3 Production Tracking Functions3.1 Production Tracking Setup3.1.1 Description and ApplicabilityThe system setup for production tracking involves setting a few system rules (see SystemRules in this document) and setting up ODS for BObj Reporting (see the ODS ReportingGuide, the SAP ME Business Objects Reporting Guide and the SAP ME How-To-Guide ODS Setup).3
