Recovering Data from iPhone DeviceStep 1. Driver Installation1. Plug the iRecovery Stick into your computers USB Port2. Make sure the iRecovery Stick is detected by Windows. It is detected as acommon USB drive and will be marked as a Removable drive in the list of yourdrives. The following is an example of what Windows will see.3. Next open Windows Explorer or My Computer and select the Removable Diskthat is the iRecovery Stick. As seen below:2

4. Double-click on the iRecoveryStick.exe to start it. iRecoveryStick.exe is thehighlight file below:5. Installation of drivers. If drivers for iPhone are not installed, the iRecovery StickDriver Pack installation wizard starts. Below is the first screen that will come upprompting you for the driver installation:6. Click on the Next button in the Driver Pack installation Window.7. Accept terms of the License Agreement and click Next.3

8. You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. Accept andclick Next.9. On the Customize Setup page you do not need to change any settings, clickNext.10. On the Ready to Install page, click Next to start driver installation.11. The installation will now start.12. When the installation is finished, click Finish on the last page of the installationwizard.13. Remove the iRecovery Stick from the USB port.14. It is now recommended that you Restart the computer to make sure theinstallation has been completed correctly.15. To verify that drivers have been installed correctly, the item QuickTime will nowappear under your Start menu.4

Step 2. Data Acquisition and Recovery.1. Plug the iRecovery Stick into your computers USB Port (if not already plugged in)2. Make sure the iRecovery Stick is detected by Windows. It is as a common USBdrive and will be marked as a Removable drive in the list of your drives. Thefollowing is an example of what Windows will see.3. Next, open Windows Explorer or My Computer and select the Removable Diskthat is the iRecovery Stick. As seen below:4. Double-click on the iRecoveryStick.exe to start it. iRecoveryStick.exe is thehighlight file below:5

5. The iRecovery application main window opens.6. Connect your iPhone into a different USB Port on the computer using an iPhonecable. Make sure your iPhone is powered ON when it is connected.6

7. Click Start Recovery on the Main page.8. You may be prompted for to change the default path for the case data. It ishighly recommended you change the path to your main C: drive because therewill likely not be enough space on the iRecovery Stick itself. Click ContinueAcquisition to acquire data to the stick (not recommended). Click ChangeDefault Path to define a new path for case data to be saved to.7

9. This can be anywhere that you have enough space to save the data to. It iscommon to select the Desktop to save this data to. Example below:10. When the path is set, click Save and then again click Start Recovery on theMain page.8

11. Click on the image of the device you want to scan. Note: If multiple devices areconnected to your computer, multiple images are displayed.NOTE: If a picture of your device doesn’t appear, please reconnect the device (sometimes it helps touse back USB ports instead of front ports) and make sure your iPhone is powered ON.12. Click on the picture of the device to start the acquisition process (note, thepicture may not look exactly like your phone).13. The details of the acquisition process are displayed in the Acquisition detailspane in the bottom of the screen.9

14. When the acquisition finishes, you can start reviewing the data.15. All of the case data is automatically saved to the default location specified at thebeginning of the process or if you did not change to a specific location it will besaved to the default location. You can find the default location by going to Tools Options.10

16. You can use File Save As to move it to another location.11

How to update the iRecovery stickIf you have an old version of the iRecovery stick, you can easily update it on-line.1. Connect the stick to the computer with an Internet connection and start theiRecovery stick application.2. You are asked to check for iRecovery stick updates. Click Yes.3. If you have selected not to show this message select Tools Check for Updates.4. The application connects to the update server via the Internet.13

5. If no updates are available, you’ll get the corresponding message. Click Cancel.6. If an update is available, the download will start. Depending on your networkconnection speed, it may take a long time.7. When updates are downloaded and extracted. The application closes and theconsole window opens.14

8. When the update process finishes, the console window closes and the updatediRecovery application starts. Now it’s ready for use.15

Troubleshooting GuideThe following section provides answers for some common issues that you mayencounter when using iRecovery Stick.Problem:The iPhone is frozen or hung. What do I do?Solution:Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and thehome button at the bottom center of the face at the same time. This will not remove anydata from the device, but will allow the device to be restarted and not be frozenanymore.16

Problem:The iPhone doesn't connect to the computer. What should I do?Solution: Please try one of the following: The iPhone battery might need to be recharged. Make sure it is charged at least50% before starting your recovery.Change USB ports on the computer. If the device was plugged into one port,move it to a different port on the computer and retry the process.Power the iPhone off and power it back on again and reconnect the device to thecomputer.Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of the iPhone for a fewseconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and holdthe Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.Unplug the device, and restart the computer and repeat all the above stepsincluding driver installation.Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes fromwww.apple.com/itunes.17
