Clallam County Amateur Radio ClubMarch 4, 2021Volume 21 Issue 2President’s CornerHere it is March already and Dennis Tilton ispacking up for his move to Salt Lake City, Utahto be with family. It is sad to see Dennis go ashe has been such a great technical resource forthe club. The triplexer we use at field day thatsplits one antenna (the 3 band beam) into threeseparate cables for 20, 15 and 10; Dennis builtthat. The stubs that help prevent interferencebetween bands at field day; Dennis built them.A number of us have benefited from theequipment and books Dennis has decided hecannot take with him. Dennis. as long as weare having meeting via Zoom you arewelcomed to attend. You may have seen that the ARRL has extendedthe FD 2020 rules to 2021 but restricting D andE stations to 150 watts output. Aprospective ham, a new ham and a long timeclub member could [find] something of interestin this package. A preview of the package ishere. Comments welcomed.Joe Edwards, our club treasurer andmembership chair person, has been busysending letters to the 20 some odd memberswith no email address in the membershipdatabase. Without an email they do not receivenet, meeting, or newsletter information viagroups io. Come year end I am sure they thinktheir 20 dues was worth nothing and many donot rejoin. In last months newsletter I ask for avolunteer for field day lead and a newslettereditor. Glen Kilpatrick KJ7KLC has offered todo the newsletter but no field day lead hasstepped forward. I am guessing that nobodybelieves we will be able to do FD due to Covidrestrictions.Page 1 of 5

Clallam County Amateur Radio ClubVolume 21 Issue 2ARRL to Extend Field Day RuleWaivers from 2020, Add Class Dand E Power Limit02/10/2021The COVID-19 pandemic-modified ARRLField Day rules from 2020 will continue thisJune with the addition of a power limit imposedon Class D (Home Stations) and Class E (HomeStations-Emergency Power) participants. Thenews from the ARRL Board’s Programs andServices Committee comes as many clubs andgroups are starting preparations for Field Dayin earnest. Field Day 2021 will take place June26 – 27.”March 4, 2021Assuming, however, that the fair grounds isopen the club could set up the operating tentsand individuals can bring in their ownequipment, antennas, and power and operateunder club FD rules. We did not have aChristmas party last year so a Saturday ClubBBQ at the fair grounds is under consideration. Those that operate from home can use theClass D rules and mention the CCARC W7FELin their submission and the scores will becombined with the score from the W7FEL fairgrounds operation. This early decision should alleviate anyhesitancy that radio clubs and individual FieldDay participants may have with their planningfor the event,” said ARRL Contest ProgramManager Paul Bourque, N1SFE.For Field Day 2021: Class D stations may work all otherField Day stations, including otherClass D stations, for points. This year, however, Class D and Class E stationswill be limited to 150 W PEP output. An aggregate club score will bepublished — just as it was done lastyear. The aggregate score will be a sumof all individual entries that attributedtheir score to that of a specific club.So here is a thought to be discussed at the clubmeeting. We do not have a volunteer to lead aclub field day setup so a full all out field day ispretty much out of the question.Page 5 of 5
