INTRODUCTIONto AHG Faith Awards ProgramFaith is foundational to the Mission of American Heritage Girls. Christ is the focusand the reason for everything AHG does. In the AHG Oath, girls promise to loveGod. In the AHG Creed, girls commit to being reverent. AHG hopes that girls willexperience God in all parts of AHG—friends, service, badges, and more! Faith Awardsare one of the main avenues in which to integrate faith into the AHG Program.AHG encourages all girls to participate in the Faith Awards Program. One year ofFaith Award programming is required for Tenderhearts, Explorers and Pioneers asthey complete Level Awards. Patriots have to complete segments one and two.The AHG Program is rooted in Christ. Through the Faith Emphasis, AHG hopes thatgirls will grow in their faith and become lifelong Christ-followers. Girls will understandtheir identity in Christ, learn to submit to Christ, and seek God’s will for their lives.Troops with multiple denominations should assist girls in selecting the correctFaith Award for the girls, honoring the family’s decision of the faith that is taught athome. Girls or adults might disagree about secondary issues, but we all have the AHGStatement of Faith in common and it is important to focus on what we can agree. Ifdiscussions do arise between girls, this is a wonderful opportunity for them to learnto respect different viewpoints. Leaders are also expected to model respect andcompassion to their girls in these difficult conversations.TWO FAITH AWARD TRACKSThere are two different types of Faith Awards: The Catholic Faith Awards and theBuild Your Faith Awards (B.Y. Faith Awards). The two tracks were created to fit allAmerican Heritage Girls. The Catholic Faith Awards honor the AHG Creed, Oath, andMission connecting what girls are learning in AHG with the Catechism of the CatholicChurch. B.Y. Faith Awards allow girls and adults to choose from different options thatwill accelerate girls in learning to live by faith. The B.Y. Faith Awards offer Troops theopportunity to tailor the program as much as they and their Charter Organizationdeem necessary. Both Faith Award tracks give girls the opportunity to grow deeperin their faith and relationship with Christ.AHG Faith Award Program Training is available in the AHGequiptraining app. This training is for any Adult Member who wants tolearn more about AHG’s Faith Award Program, but is especiallyrecommended for Troop Shepherds or anyone working directly withgirls who are pursuing their Faith Awards. The training includes anoverview of all Faith Awards as well as the Catholic Mentor Training.Download the AHGequip training app here:http://bit.ly/AHGequipdownload4Find all of this information and more at http://bit.ly/AHGfaithawards

B.Y.Faith Awards OverviewThe Build Your Faith Award Program (B.Y. Faith Award Program) was createdto provide girls with a dynamic, exciting curriculum that helps them understandtheir identity in Christ and ignites a passion to pursue His will in their lives. Thename B.Y. Faith comes from Hebrews 11, which shows several examples of peoplethroughout God’s family who have taken steps in faith. By faith Abel brought,Noah built, Abraham obeyed, Isaac blessed, Joseph spoke, and so much more.God works through His people by guiding them to do things “by faith” rather thantheir own understanding. B.Y. is also an acronym for “Build Your”. Before the girlsin a Troop can do anything “by faith”, they need to develop a love for and trust inGod in their own hearts. Build her faith through AHG’s Faith Awards Program. The B.Y. Faith Award program is made up of several different options, created incollaboration with many of AHG’s Program Alliances and volunteers to allow girls,Units, and Troops great choices at each Program Level. This program was built to be: Used by multiple denominations — Girls of most Christian denominationscan participate and grow in their relationship and understanding of Christ byearning these awards. Customizable — Parents and Unit Leaders know their girls best. They knowwhere girls need the most growth. Unit Leaders, with the guidance of theirTroop Shepherd, should choose what will work best for their Unit from theapproved list on the following pages. Adaptable — These options are adaptable and can be utilized in many differentAHG settings.CHOOSING A STUDYAHG has compiled a diverse list of approved studies. When choosing a study,Troops have three options: Troop: Some of the approved studies are available to girls at every ProgramLevel. Troops may decide to have all girls participate in the same study attheir different Program Levels. Troops designate one person, often the TroopShepherd, to lead the implementation. This role would include: helping girlschoose the study, acquiring the program materials, and equipping Unit Leadersto work with their Unit.Find all of this information and more at http://bit.ly/AHGfaithawards7

Unit: Troops may also decide to allow each individual Unit to choose a differentstudy. In this case, Unit Leaders along with girls may choose from one of theoptions available for their Unit. Individual: Although it is recommended that Faith Awards be completedtogether with their Unit, girls may complete these awards on their own with atrusted adult mentor, maintaining two-deep leadership.PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATIONTroops are encouraged to choose an implementation strategy that best fits theirTroop schedule and girls’ needs.OptionDescriptionTroop or Unit Retreat*The Unit or Troop takes a retreat weekend to work onFaith Awards.Unit Time*Work on Faith Awards during regular Unit time.Camp Workshop*Incorporate into a week-long camp with an hour longworkshop each day where girls will complete theirFaith Award.Faith MeetingPick a time, separate from your regular Troop meetingtime where girls can come together with their Unit tocomplete their Faith Awards.IndividualGirls may work on their Faith Award individuallyoutside of Troop time with a respected mentor, maintaining two-deep leadership.*Troops may come across some difficult conversations among the girls through Faith Awards. This is a wonderful opportunity for girls to learn to respect different viewpoints.TYPE OF STUDYEach study option has labels naming the type of study. The three types areFoundations, Topical, and In-depth. Foundations studies are for girls learningabout the building blocks of their faith. Foundations are fundamental to the faithof every Christian and may include topics such as the Gospel, prayer, how to readyour Bible, who God is, etc. Topical studies are for girls who are familiar with thebasics and want to dive deeper into a particular topic.
