Our club was invited by Becky Richardson to come toa Pink Box Purpose Cutting Party that she was hosting. The gathering was held at the RockCreek Lutheran Church on Sunday Feb 15th. You may be asking what a Pink Box Purpose CuttingParty is. Pink Box Purpose is an organization that was started by Jenni Patnode and her sisterHeather to help empower women and girls of Honduras. According to a pamphlet that Jennyand Heather have about their organization to pass out at one of these parties, "many girls" inHonduras "drop out of school when they begin menstruation because they miss days of schoolwhen they have their period" and that their impact has “taught 13 women how to sew reusablepads, gave them a purpose, a job, a new life, and hope for a brighter future while alsoempowering girls to stay in school when they have their periods." As a host of a Pink BoxPurpose Cutting Party, Becky could have asked family and friends to donate 1 yard of cottonand 1 yard of flannel fabric to be cut into the proper size pieces to form the sanitary pads.Becky applied for an Action Grant from Thriven, which she received, to purchase the newmaterial that was needed for this project. Becky had patterns cut out and ready for our clubmembers to take and she showed them how to lay out the patterns on the fabric so as to cutas many patterns as possible. Any scraps of material were going to be donated to the PepinCounty Humane Association to be stuffed into new doggie beds. With such a good turnout ofvolunteers to cut material over 600 feminine hygiene pads were cut. If you would like toorganize a Pink Box Purpose Cutting Party just contact Heather and Jenni or other business for our club, we have decided to purchased 200 worth of new clothing tobe donated to Sacred Heart Hospital for the Assault Victim’s unit. Our next meeting will be on March 15th at the Durand City Hall at 1:00 if anyone new wouldlike to join us. Weber’s will be Family In Charge.
