Updated 1/3/2022Registered Nurse OnboardingMedication SafetyBasic Proficiency in Medication AdministrationFor RN and LPNs AssessmentYou have been scheduled to complete theBasic Proficiency in Medication Administration Assessment All Experienced and Newly Licensed RN and LPNs will take the Adult versionof the assessment. This validated and reliable testing tool measures the knowledge and abilitiesnecessary for registered nurses to safely administer medications to a general adultpopulation. The test is computer based, 60 multiple-choice questions, with a 75 minute timeallowance. The test includes three categories of questions:o Calculationso Principles of Medication Administrationo Drug Effects Three subset scores and an overall score are provided to the test taker uponcompletion of the assessment. An overall score of 80% is required for successful completion of theassessment and prior to administering medications to patients. If an overall score of 80% is not attained, opportunity to retake theassessment will be provided. Calculators may be utilized during the assessment.6
