IntroductionOctober 2021The District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) grants aneducator preparation provider (EPP) state approval after examining the quality of the providerand programs preparing teachers, service providers, and administrators for District of Columbiapre-K through grade 12 schools; and determining that the programs meet state standards forpreparing candidates to enter the profession. State approval is required for programs in theDistrict of Columbia offering professional preparation programs that lead to state teacher,service provider, and school administrator licensure.The state EPP and program approval system is designed to ensure a steady flow of high-qualitycandidates for roles as teachers, administrators, and other school personnel in District ofColumbia schools by allowing multiple routes for educator preparation. The District ofColumbia’s system for state approval of EPPs and programs insists on high standards andselectivity for teacher, administrator, and other school personnel candidates.The following pages identify the institutions and organizations that have been granted stateapproval by OSSE. They also identify the specific subject area programs that have beenapproved to recommend candidates for licensure.
