It is a systematic evaluation of a person’s ability to apply the learnt knowledge and skills. Competencies are measuredand when certain identified competencies are focused, they indicate the improved abilities of an individual over time.A competency framework is a set of competencies that indicates an individual’s capabilities on the specified parameters. As a tool to developprofessionals, the competency framework helps the faculty members to measure the professional skills and proficiencies in a learner andidentify the areas of improvement for them. For employers, it enables organizations to find right candidates for the various jobs. Thus, bothlearner and the employer understand the various parameters, the expected level of each parameter and the measurement method.Competency Based Assessment SystemNIIT has recently introduced Competency based Assessment System for its learners.Keeping above in mind and in consultation with various IT organizations, NIIT has defined a Competency based Assessment System that helpsmeasure not just the technical skills but also the functional and the behavioral skills of a learner. The objective is to pay attention to the overalldevelopment of the learner making him a well-rounded professional. This is done by continuous monitoring and assessment of the learners.This assessment is used to provide feedback to the learners at regular intervals showing them their performance measures for variousparameters and thereby telling the learners what their strengths and development areas are.
