COMPETENCY SCORECARDINTERPRETATIONCompetency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 1

IntroductionFor over 30 years, NIIT has taken pride in creating great career opportunities for learners from different walks of life. At NIIT, we have trainedmillions of learners in more than 40 countries. We design curriculum with inputs from IT Industry, Academia, IT majors like Microsoft, Sun, andOracle so that the learners get diverse and specialized skills that are essential in a successful IT career.NIIT being the pioneer in IT Education and Training, we keep abreast with the latest technologies as part of our curriculum offering. Allcurriculums are futuristic as they include technologies of the future (next 3 – 4 yrs.) to help prepare learners be industry-ready. Various marketrealities help in taking decisions for a new curriculum design.About CompetencyA competency is a set of interrelated attitudes, skills, and knowledge in a particular context that is used to identify and measure certainattributes for a person. It is a systematic evaluation of a person’s ability to apply the learnt knowledge and skills. Competencies are measuredand when certain identified competencies are focused, they indicate the improved abilities of an individual over time.A competency framework is a set of competencies that indicates an individual’s capabilities on the specified parameters. As a tool to developprofessionals, the competency framework helps the faculty members to measure the professional skills and proficiencies in a learner andidentify the areas of improvement for them. For employers, it enables organizations to find right candidates for the various jobs. Thus, bothlearner and the employer understand the various parameters, the expected level of each parameter and the measurement method.Competency Based Assessment SystemNIIT has recently introduced Competency based Assessment System for its learners.Keeping above in mind and in consultation with various IT organizations, NIIT has defined a Competency based Assessment System that helpsmeasure not just the technical skills but also the functional and the behavioral skills of a learner. The objective is to pay attention to the overalldevelopment of the learner making him a well-rounded professional. This is done by continuous monitoring and assessment of the learners. This assessment is used to provide feedback to the learners at regular intervals showing them their performance measures for variousparameters and thereby telling the learners what their strengths and development areas are. This system also provides possible actions that thelearners can take to work on their development areas.Competency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 2

Features/Benefits of the Competency based Assessment SystemFollowing are some of the features/benefits of the Competency based Assessment System: Provide visibility from Enrollment to Employment for skill enhancement Continuously monitor and assess not just the technical knowledge and skills but also functional and behavioral parameters Provide continuous, timely, constructive, and supportive feedback to help learners improve their performance during the course oflearningCompetency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 3

Competencies ListThe competency based assessment system defined by NIIT measures the following categories of competencies: Technical Functional BehavioralTechnical : Level of Knowledge or skills attainedThis category of competency will measure the learners’ ability to use their knowledge and skills in solving various scenario-based problems. Thecapability will be measured through various activities performed by the learner in the courses attended during the program.Following competencies will be measured for this category: KnowledgeApplication Knowledge: This competency refers to information and learning of a person. Competency ScorecardThe competency scorecard is the report of Competency Based Assessment System and it captures knowledge, skill, and behavioral attributes ofan individual that indicate the strengths of a learner. Competency scorecard will enable learners to build capabilities by identifying areas thatneed reinforcement. This will help the learners identify their strengths and their suitability to a job profile. The following figure shows the representation of competency scorecard that will be visible to a learner.Competency Score Card ViewCompetency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 11

In the preceding figure, a learner can click either on the “?” or () icon available in each competency dial. The “?” icon will allow the learner toview the Score Card Interpretation that details how the score is calculated (this is precisely where you clicked to access this document that youare reading). In addition, theicon will allow the learner to view their respective Detailed Score view, as shown in the following figure.Behavioral Detailed ScoreCompetency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 12

Competency Scorecard and Job MappingCompetency Scorecard can be used effectively to identify the suitability of the learners to a particular job role. Things to Remember Take this Score Card as a mirror – it is reflecting your image – use it to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Make action plans toconvert your weaknesses into strengths. Competency Score card is not to be equated to any Academic Performance Score Card as it involves complex calculations. Let’s not evenattempt it ! This score card is not semester wise but one for a program, hence, as you progress through the program, you can see the competencylevels achieved. The competency scorecard results will be indicative of the achieved level. This will reflect the competency achieved as on date and willbe the cumulative score. Data will be picked up at regular intervals of 4-6 weeks. Competency scorecard will only be available on the new cloud campus site and is applicable only for GNIIT and PGPIT students underCCC Curriculum (GNIIT Series is not included). Proficient Level attained in a competency is an indicative measure and in no way guarantees internship/placement. The student isexpected to exhibit this level in the internship and placement interviews.Competency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 16

FAQsQ1. Is the Competency Scorecard applicable for all programs at NIIT?A1: No, Competency Scorecard is applicable for only GNIIT and PGPIT programs of CCC curriculum.Q2: Why is a Competency Scorecard provided? I already have my Semester wise Scorecard.A2: Semester wise Scorecard is based on the very specific assessments that are applicable as per the semester. You joined for the abovementioned programs at NIIT for a holistic development as an IT professional. Competencies are identified for the same, and your progress onthose is tracked throughout your semesters. So, it is not just the overall scores that your attain, but even your session attendance, yourparticipation in buddynet learning, your performance in very specific level of questions which contributes to specific competencies as detailed inthe Score Card interpretation document.Q3: Which Competencies are considered for tracking?A3: Three categories of Competencies are considered: Technical, Functional and Behavioral.Under these, specific Competencies are tracked:Technical: KnowledgeApplicationFunctional CommunicationCompetency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 17

Behavioral Teamwork and cooperationInitiativeAnalytical and deductive reasoningTimelinessQ4: What is Score Card Interpretation Guideline?A4: To help you transparently understand the Competency Score Card, a guideline is accessible by using the “?” on the Score Card Dials.Q5. How will my score be calculated as I will be attempting the similar tests more than once in a program?A5. The average score for the similar tests will be considered. For example, if there are two projects in a program, then the average of both thescores will be considered for the competency.Q6: In some of the cells, NA is displayed. What does NA mean?A6: NA (Not Applicable) indicates that either you have not reached that activity or that activity is not applicable in your course.Q7: If I am having some of the activities as NA, how my score is being calculated?A7: You are getting activity wise score and overall score only for those activities which are not NA. So you are not missing score anywhere.Competency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 18

Q8: In Detailed View, why some of the dials are missing?A8: If all the activities of a specific competency are NA, then respective dial will not be displayed.Q9: What does social networking data mean?A9: It is based on the frequency of your participation in blogs, groups, discussions, and chat.Q10. I checked my competency score yesterday and found that data points are same from last 20 days. When will I get an updated score card?A10. The competency score card is a regular process, which is updated every 4-6 weeks. This is subject to the condition that the student status is“Valid” in the NIIT system.Q11. Is the scorecard linked with my Placement service?A11. No, the scorecard is not linked with the Placement service. The purpose of the scorecard is to provide feedback to the learners at regularintervals showing them their performance measures for various parameters and thereby telling the learners what their strengths anddevelopment areas are.Competency Scorecard Interpretation v1.0 NIITPage 19
