Surveying and Geomatics Program—Licensure InformationUPDATED: 1/14/2022The SLCC Surveying and Geomatics program helps students prepare for employment in the surveying field. Many whowork in the surveying field have the goal of earning state licensure. The path to state licensure usually includes threesteps: Education, Experience, and Exams. Most states require licensure applicants to have passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying(NCEES) exams. Two exams are available: the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam is available for recent graduates andstudents who are close to finishing a surveying degree. The Professional Surveying (PS) exam is designed for surveyorswho have gained at least four years of professional experience. In addition, most states also require a state-specificsurveying exam.In order to practice as a licensed surveyor, students must satisfy individual state requirements, independent of SLCCgraduation requirements. It is highly recommended that students consult in advance with the Utah Division ofOccupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL), or similar agencies in other states, to find out more about eligibility forstate licensure. DOPL can be reached at 801-530-6628 or at their website.More information about licensure in other states is available in the table below. SLCC has not made a determination ifthe Surveying AAS degree meets the educational requirements for licensure in any state other than Utah.If you have difficulty finding the licensure requirements for your state, please contact the Program Coordinator for moreinformation.States and Territories State Licensure InformationThis list was last updated 1/14/2022.
