WEBINAR OVERVIEW To provide helpful information that can beused as a guide for filing the 2021-22FASFA.gov application available on thewebsite (FOTW) and via the myStudent MobileApp. The screenshots are intended to show manyof the questions displayed in FAFSA.gov;however, most applicants and/or parents areunlikely to need to answer all the questionswhen completing their application. The screenshots used in this presentationshows examples of what the studentaid.govapplication will look like.2

FAFSA FILING DEADLINESThe 2021-22 version of the FAFSA will be available for applicantsto use on October 1, 2020.TEMPLE FILING DEADLINESFor the 2021-22 financial aid year, Temple's FAFSA priority filing deadline isFebruary 1, 2021. The submitted FAFSA must be complete and signed bythe student (and the parent if the student is a dependent status).3

DO I NEED TO FILEA FAFSA? The FAFSA is used to determineFederal, State, and/orInstitutional need based financialaid.Students who plan on attendingcollege during the 2021-22academic year are encouraged tofile a FAFSA.Students looking to utilizenon-need based aid such as thefederal unsubsidized loan, orfederal Parent Plus loan, mustalso submit a FAFSA.Some outside scholarshiporganizations may ask for astudent’s Student Aid Reportfrom the FAFSA to determinescholarship eligibility.

KEY FAFSA FEATURES Students and parents who are eligible may use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) to electronicallytransfer federal tax return information into a FAFSA form. Students and parents may be eligible to transfer their FAFSA information into their state aid application.Participating states include Iowa, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, andVermont. Parents that have multiple students who need to file an application may be eligible to transfer their FAFSAinformation into a new application from the original student’s confirmation page. Students will be able to view additional information about the schools they selected on their FAFSA form foreasy comparison of schools. Students and parents can correct or update an application once it’s been processed. Students and parents can save an application from studentaid.gov and resume where they left off on themobile app and vice versa.6

The system talliesthe totals as the applicantcompletes the worksheet toensure that there are nomathematical errors.55

INDEPENDENT STUDENT STATUS This view only displays if ithas been determined thatthe applicant is consideredto be independent. Generally independentapplicants have the choiceof whether or not toanswer questions abouttheir parents. However,some health professionsor law schools may requireparent information.56

EMAIL NOTIFICATION OF STUDENT AID REPORT If a valid email address is provided onFAFSA, you will receive an email thatprovides information on accessing theelectronic Student Aid Report (SAR)through studentaid.gov.69
